Brian Lent
Chairman & CEO
Lent co-founded Medio Systems in 2004 from his role as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Mohr Davidow Ventures. Previously the founding CEO of Intelligent Results, a business analytics software company, Lent also held senior technical and marketing management positions at Amazon.com, where he led efforts in data mining, data warehousing, CRM, and e-commerce search engines.
Lent was a principal and Director of Applications at Junglee, later an Amazon acquisition, where he pioneered new internet database technologies. As an NSF and Department of Defense ONR Fellow, he held research and development positions at IBM Almaden Research Center and Silicon Graphics.
At Stanford, Lent was a co-founder of the MIDAS (Mining Data At Stanford) group, the lab that spawned the Google crawler and search engine. He has contributed to several professional publications and is a patent holder on the topic of data mining, information retrieval and database systems. Lent sits on a number of technology advisory boards in the areas of search, advertising and customer analytics. Lent holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Nevada Reno, and an MS and PhD Candidacy in Computer Science from Stanford University.
Robert P. Lilleness
President & COO
Lilleness joined Medio from Universal Electronics, Inc., a global leader in wireless control technology. During Lilleness' tenure, the company fortified their technology, tripled their patent portfolio, shipped over one hundred new products, and expanded to serve other industries. As a result, revenue grew rapidly from $104 million in 2002 to over $230 million in 2006 and earnings more than doubled--resulting in a tripling of the stock price. Today, it is estimated that a 250 million people use Universal's technology around the world.
Prior to Universal, Lilleness served as vice president of product management and marketing at Trilogy Software Inc., a leading developer of enterprise-class, e-business software for Global 2000 corporations. Lilleness was also on the initial team that built the Windows Networking business at Microsoft where he served in a number of management roles. He was responsible for shipping multiple versions of Windows NT Server and helping to build the Windows networking business to over $500 million in sales. Lilleness started his career with Ernst and Young in Zurich, Switzerland.
Lilleness serves on the board of directors of Smart Labs, Inc. the developer of INSTEON home automation technology and owner of Smarthome, world's largest home automation store. Lilleness holds a B.A. from the University of Puget Sound and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Michael Libes
Chief Architect
A Medio co-founder, Libes is a serial entrepreneur who has designed, developed, and shipped over 50 commercial products over the last 15 years. Most recently, Libes was the head of Mforma's Application Studio, leading the company's efforts beyond mobile games. An early Mforma employee, he helped build the company's developer support, handset porting, and quality assurance departments. Prior to Mforma, Libes co-founded 2WAY Corporation, designing and developing enterprise-scale collaboration and instant messaging software. Libes and the other founders of 2WAY are Smithsonian Laureates, and 2WAY's primary software product was inducted into the Smithsonian's Permanent Research Collection.
Before 2WAY, Libes founded and was CEO and CTO of Nimble Corporation. Nimble developed and licensed software for the early handhelds from Sony, Motorola, Panasonic, Philips, and EO, plus early wireless pioneers McCaw Cellular, AT&T Wireless, and General Magic. Prior to Nimble, Libes was an architect on IBM's Workplace OS. Libes received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics/Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, and Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Washington.
Jeff Damir
Corporate Vice President
Before joining Medio, Damir served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development for SEVEN Networks, where he was responsible for relationships with major service providers and handset manufacturers worldwide, as well as strategic alliances with leading ISPs and key technology partners. Prior to SEVEN, Damir was Openwave Systems' Vice President responsible for client products, including product sales, business development and strategy. During his tenure he successfully licensed the company's microbrowser software to each of the top 20 handset manufacturers, and to date over 300 million handsets have shipped with Openwave's browser.
Damir has also held senior positions with AT&T Wireless and McCaw Cellular, where he directed product management and strategy when AT&T Wireless launched the world's first microbrowser service. Damir also served in senior management at Cometa Networks, GTE Government Systems and Hughes Aircraft.
Damir holds an MBA from Stanford University, and an MSEE in Communications Systems from University of Southern California.
Lee Joseph
Managing Director, Europe (EMEA)
Lee Joseph brings extensive sales management and business development experience to Medio. Most recently, Joseph was at Openwave, where he served as Vice President of the Vodafone account team. He was responsible for building and managing relationships with Vodafone's extensive family of operators in 27 countries and five continents.
Before Openwave, Joseph spent nine years at RealNetworks, culminating in his role as Vice President of Media Systems for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). In that role he led sales and business development activities across all market segments, including mobile and fixed operators. He also served as General Manager of Mobile Products and Services, where he helped RealNetworks to achieve clear leadership in the mobile arena, enabling more than 65 operators to deliver audio and video to their subscribers. His team built and managed a robust portfolio of partners including Siemens, Ericsson, Nokia and CapGemini.
Joseph also held senior sales management and business development roles in the US and Europe. Prior to RealNetworks, he was Director of Sales at MathSoft (now Insightful).
Fred Owens
Vice President of Business Development
Prior to joining Medio, Owens was a founding member of the mobile team at RealNetworks, where he developed initial global marketing, business and technology strategies for Real's mobile streaming media platforms. Over the last three years as Sr. Director of Business Development, he managed a team responsible for North American Carrier Relations, OEM Handset Business Development, and Content Services business development and strategy. RealNetworks' streaming media technology has become a virtual standard in the global wireless carrier community with nearly 90 percent of deployed streaming media systems based on Real technologies. Owens also managed teams responsible for first-of-kind commercial relationships with Vodafone Sprint, Qualcomm Intel, IBM, Lotus, Netscape, Cisco, Compaq, Sun Microsystems, among others.
Prior to his seven-and-a-half years at Real, Owens held executive management roles at The Palace, Inc., a start-up funded by Intel, Time Warner and Softbank as well as Creative Multimedia Inc. (sold to HIS Group). Owens began his professional information technology career with IBM where he was a successful manager in the Rocky Mountain and Northwest Region. Owens graduated with a BA in Business and Economics from Colorado College.
Cheryl Scott
Vice President of Carrier Deployments
Prior to joining Medio, Scott consulted to senior executives at Universal Electronics, where she drove multiple releases of award-winning embedded consumer products for mobile platforms, from specification to delivery. Universal's revenues doubled during Scott's tenure. She also helped develop the company's product strategy and maintain relationships with partners including Hewlett-Packard.
As Vice President of Internet Services Group at Trilogy, formerly pcOrder.com, Scott was a member of the company's executive management team during its successful IPO, and subsequently saw its market capitalization grew from $300 million at IPO to over $1 billion. Under her oversight, pcOrder.com's content and hosting services revenues grew 142%, accounting for 52% of the company's revenues. As Director of Special Projects, Scott managed a task force to resolve critical operational issues, boosting service quality and customer satisfaction.
Scott also served as a Program Manager in the Business Systems Division of Microsoft, shipping systems administration tools for Windows NT 3.51, NT 4.0 and the BackOffice Resource Kit. As the Director of IT Strategic Planning and Development for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, she produced and implemented open-systems strategy, including both hardware and software, and managed 60 vendor contract negotiations and relationships.
Scott holds 9 pending and granted technology patents. She earned an MBA in Management Information Systems from Indiana University, and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois.
Tom Schill
Vice President of Operations
Schill came to Medio Systems after founding his own successful consulting company specializing in Operational excellence. Prior to consulting, he spent over 25 years in the telecommunications industry, most recently managing all operational functions for the Qwest hosting business. Responsible for expanding the business from five data centers to more than 16, Schill oversaw growth from fewer than 50 customers to over 150 fortune 500 companies, consisting of financial, medical, U S Government, entertainment and legal firms. He was instrumental in growing the business from annual losses to profitability.
Prior to managing the hosting business, Schill held a number of key roles at U.S. West, such as capacity planning and tuning of mainframes and midrange servers, hardware and software acquisition, financial planning, and network operations.
Schill has managed teams supporting IBM, HP, SUN, Digital, Compaq, Sequent hardware and software, and has implemented quality processes including ITIL processes. He graduated from Portland State University with a BS degree.
Jeffrey Chale
Vice President of Sales
With more than 25 years of direct sales and sales management experience, Chale brings extensive knowledge of the technology, retail and mobile environments to Medio. As Vice President of Sales, he works with new and existing customers to build exceptional solutions quickly and to build significant business opportunities for our operator partners.
Throughout his career, Chale has been responsible for building high-performance sales teams, acquiring strategic customers and managing key client relationships. His experience includes positions in several technology and telecommunication companies, including 2WAY Corporation, TollFree Cellular Inc, Digital Systems International-Mosaix, and most recently BuildPoint Corporation in Redwood Shores, Calif., where he was responsible for acquiring cornerstone clients and developing channel strategies. Prior to joining the technology industry, he spent 14 years as a top performer in various sales functions at Eastman Kodak.
